This painting is based on a photograph that I took roughly three months after the Black Summer fires. The colours appeared exaggerated against the black scars of the landscape, limes, yellows and purples just seemed to pop.
I tried to stretch the viewers sight in through the hills, to look beyond what seems foremost, just as I needed to do in those early times to get through one day at a time.
